I think it's more about calibrating user expectations. I know people love seeing a nice, full battery meter for an extended period of time and don't like it when it starts to show a discharge (it's a psychological thing, like seeing a full tank of gas), but I think as long as one gets a reasonable amount of "read" time between charges, then the battery meter doesn't really matter until it starts to register below 20%, at which point you should probably consider recharging.

In my case, it seems like it drains faster at the start, seems to stay between 80% and 20% for a good, long time, and then starts to quickly drop again after 20%, but typically, I can get several weeks between charges.

(I suppose I should note that my comments are based on my experience with a 5-year old 1st generation Kobo Aura and a brand new Kobo Clara HD.)
