Perhaps all ereaders should require the user to "register" their ereader while connected to a computer so it could:
  • download the latest firmware
  • supply some useful support numbers correct for their country
  • download the manual in the users language
  • choose a free library of books in the users language
  • set up a password and "if found please contact" screen
Doing this would avoid this type of recall, reduce support calls and reduce the number of unreadable books held on an ereader. My 2c.

EDIT: are you saying a Mac won't allow you to copy any file, with any extension, onto a USB memory stick/ereader? really?
