For stripping the DRM, did you use ConvertLit command line or the GUI ("windows" with buttons version)? I use the GUI version and just click the "Downconvert" button which leaves me with a tidy .lit file I can then convert in Calibre. I couldn't figure out the command line version of ConvertLit.
