A "jacket" is an html page inserted inside an ebook that shows a summary of the ebook using metadata from your library like title, author, rating and description. Kind of like the back cover of a book (i.e. the "jacket" of a hardback). You can turn this feature on when you do an ebook conversion in the conversion dialog options of Structure Detection -> Insert metadata as page at start of book.

Some people like them, other people don't. Quality Check gives you a way of finding which of your ePubs have them or dn't have them, depending on what you are looking for. Calibre also changed the way it formats those jacket html pages a long while ago, so the QC plugin allows you to identify such "legacy" jackets as well.

The Modify ePub plugin offers a quick way (for ePubs) of either inserting, updating or removing such metadata jackets without having to do a conversion.
