Wharton, Edith: The Age of Innocence. eReader. 10 Feb 2008

The Age of Innocence is considered Edith Wharton's finest work. It won the Pulitzer Prise for best novel in 1921.

The story is set in New York in the 1870s. It follows the lives of New York high society in that era before motors, telephones, or electricity, at a time when society and customs were changing. These descendants of Revolutionary War figures felt they were entitled by position rather than by ability, and reputation was more important than anything else.
