I couldn't find out much about Chapin, other than his dates (1879-1938) and that he published between 1910 and his death, originally leaning to adventure stories, later towards crime. This is an "isolated house in a snowstorm" murder story. It runs to 47,000 words and first appeared in "Detective" magazine, June 1934.
