Quick update.
After a third attempt to return the Glo HD through customer service they have agreed to supply a replacement device. The only downside being that I have to return it at my cost to their service department in another country.
I must I'm not thrilled at paying £13 to ship a faulty device back to them but I'm on the road to getting a working reader once again.
