18,000 Nook Colors made per day

B&N's chairman, Len Riggio, is Publishing Weekly's Person of the Year. From the PW article:
Quote:
B&N is manufacturing Nookcolors at a rate of 18,000 per day and is loading up a 747 every four to five days to bring devices to the U.S. from China, Riggio says.
That is a lot of Nook Colors, 500,000 or so for the holidays. Also:
Quote:
"We intend to have a lot to say about the future of bookstores," Riggio promises. "We're in it to stay."
Not really surprising, since this is their only potential advantage over Amazon. The question is whether anyone can make mainstream chain bookselling work in the US.
