It did, though not to solve the problem. Partial matches for tags now works, but they aren't renamed to the partial, so I have more categories than I really want right now. I'll experiment more.

I'm embarrassed to say that I did, with a single book in it. Editing the series name fixed the issue. Is that a user misstep you can guard against?
