The new update (5/11/2010) fixes the communication between ADE and Alex. As NNolan suggested in an earlier thread, I mounted sd card and then opened ADE. Specific steps:

0. Make sure ADE on Alex and Mac have same Adobe id.
1. Turn off ADE on Mac
2. Mount Alex SD card on Mac (thru notifications pane)
3. Open ADE on Mac
4. Popup window appears in ADE, recognizing new device. Follow instructions.
5. Alex now appears as a bookshelf on ADE
6. Choose library ebook and drag it over to Alex
7. Unmount Alex SD (thru notifications pane)
8. Read your library book!
