May help others
calibre was freezing on my laptop after closing ebook viewer especially
calibre worked fine in safe mode windows 10
For me problem was Arconis True Image Ransonware detector (as suggested at calibre site)
Solution was to add "calibre-parallel.exe" to the manage exclusions list of True Image.
