@mikpana - have you considered using Sigil's ePub Editor with PageEdit. I find it a good good combination for copy editing/proofing of content.

now that the calibre editor has an Open With maybe its possible to use PageEdit from within it - I'll give it a try.

FTR - PageEdit stems from Sigil's now deprecated Book View tool - developed and maintained by the same people.
