Mine had some variation like that. I think it was mainly associated with the light and/or ghosting.

The Nook only refreshes every so many pages -- the page before the refresh often looked quite rough to me. It was especially pronounced reading in a dark bedroom with the Glowlight on.

I would check to see if you notice it on the page right after a refresh.
