Maybe attack is under attack? We all want to be happy and in peace all the time, and we attack anybody with a strong opinion because it threatens the illusion that we are all a big family, all nice people with nice identical bland opinions (which is, by the way, the complete opposite of what a family really is).
Who attacked first, that's the question. And the answer is: the other guy did, of course.
Or maybe the question is: what's wrong with attack, if it stays verbal? Maybe what we need to do is learn to cope with it.
