itunes of course allows me to give individual track numbers to each file, but I dread the idea of doing that for 48 files!

U can make a .m3u playlist like this:

# EXTM3U
file1.mp3
file2.mp3
file3.mp3
...


and play ur playlist .m3u on every audio player
