I believe it was lifted quite some time ago. British beef is perhaps the safest in the world these days - there's a national database which tracks the breeding history of every animal.

EDIT: According to this article, US beef is imported into the EU, but only with guarantees that no growth hormones have been used. There is a ban on importing beef with growth hormones.
