That's my understanding, although I thought there were a few given for specific works. Although that may have been the rationale of the prize that I read.
There's also the
Orange prize,the
PEN / Faulkner award and
The Giller Prize. Yes the Giller is funded by a bank who actually branded it and the website lending about 0 credibility to anyone that hasn't followed it for years.
I've not usually been let down by PEN also-rans. Giller ones are hit and miss for me and Booker ones are usually quite good. At least for the ones I've read.
