I know, that drives me nuts too. The regular Amazon store does not act that way but for some reason, it keeps wanting me to read kindle books I already own. Not really a Kindle device issue but I agree it needs to be fixed. Smart people are annoyed by sloppy things like this. Glad you wrote to them about it. I will too.
