I dropped the Hand-Me-Down font into a book I've been working on that had some span classes that I could modify, and touched up the OPF manifest, as Charleski mentioned, and it displays just fine on my Sony 505, and on my Kobo - both ADE readers, of course.

So I was wrong about the parens in the font name, and I can only second second Charleski's suggestions.
