I don't know if this is an oversight, but selecting a book in the main calibre library then pressing O (keyboard shortcut) will open the containing folder or clicking on the link (see attached) in the book details window will open the containing folder. Personally I thought the icon was overkill.

That said, we all work differently and you posed a great question.
