Hey you gave all the answers.

Did you note the message (i trimmed your log).
Not all file type "x's" are created equal , Calibre can choke when the drift to the edges of the 'norm'.
This message actually suggested a work around (not seen that before )
My advice (besides posting as you did) is read near the bottom of the error for clues (Nancy would approve )
