A very interesting book.
Mme Guyon's quietism was not approved of by the 17th century French church authorities (who were suspicious of mysticism in any form) and she spent a short period in the Bastille. Her supporter, Archbishop Fenelon was disgraced and had to leave Versailles. There is an account of all this in Chapter VIII of Saint-Simon's 'Memoirs of Louis XIV' (already uploaded).
