Is there any way to replicate the content once the new Kindle is here without going through every single book manually? Ideally including reading position and notes?
Easiest but slightly illegal solution would be to create new empty library in Calibre, install deDRM Calibre plugin and then import all the existing books from your old Kindle to that newly created Calibre library. That would remove DRM from those books you've bought on Kindle store and then you can just send that same bunch of book to your new Kindle and it would be able to opet and read ALL BOOKS. You would lose just highlights and notes for USB sideloaded books only. (if you're not willing to manually copy apropriete .sdr folder for those books)

If you just copy "documents" folder from one Kindle to another you will have bunch of books that wouldn't open on your new Kindle because they are DRM-ed to your old Kindle... and then you would have to hunt for and delete all those "retail" books and then download them or resend from Amazon website 10 at a time.
