Unfortunately both lit2oeb and html2epub use some features of lxml 2.0.5, so it is required. lxml depends on only libxml2, libxslt and libexslt (usually a part of the libxslt package).
The binary distribution of calibre contains lxml and its dependencies. Just copy them into some folder, add it to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH and you should be able to run calibre from sources.
