Because the phone you describe would be so durable that few would need to be replaced. Don't you know that the economy NEEDS people to buy replacements when the first item is damaged/worn out/not trendy?

That's nifty, and makes me wonder why more cell phones and other devices aren't made more water resistant... I was just thinking yesterday about how nice it'd be to have a cell phone with no external ports that used wifi/3g/4g/bluetooth for syncing peripherals and had inductive charging. Such a device could be make completely sealed with no place for water or dust ingress and easily meet IPX8 standards.
