I've only read 3 or 4 Trek novels. I recently read Federation (1994) by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens and it was pretty good if you don't mind the incongruities with ST:First Contact (the eighth film). It encompasses TNG, TOS and Zefram Cochrane timelines.
