I'm not sorry that I spent the money on the book, but I don't think that I will be recommending this book as a must read to any of my friends or relatives.
I finished the book too. My feelings are the same. The characters aren't very likable because they are exaggerated stereotypes to show that the middle-class characters are selfish and mean with no heart to help the lower-class characters who are criminals, drug-users and prostitutes. All of the characters are damaged goods with emotional baggage. I hated the ending, which is what solidified the book as a one-sided "socialist manifesto" as several reviews have called it. I kept reading with the hope that there would be some inspiring change in the characters, but the last 50 pages or so really soured my opinion of the book.

I don't regret that I read it. If she writes another book, then I will probably read that too. By the way, the price has dropped to $14.99 in the US.
