Usually when I am able to sit down - waiting for a train, or after lunch outside in the garden earlier this summer. Bright sunlight, but generally in the shade. If I'm in direct sun, I'm either gardening or hanging out laundry or out shopping. I don't read standing up unless I'm looking at signage or a poster (even commuting I don't read if I am standing - I like having at least one hand free to hang onto something especially if I'm wearing heels). The only time I read when walking is when I'm sight-seeing and am following a recommended route in a guide-book.
Otherwise, indoors - on the train or in the house. Never in a car (apart from directions or maps) or on a bus or coach - both make me travel sick after about 15 minutes. Also when flying or when travelling by boat (as opposed to actively sailing it).
