I cannot speak for Linux, but I suppose there still millions of users still using a copy of Windows XP which was released to manufacture in August 2001. Microsoft have said Extended Support for XP will continue until April 2014, so until then, there is probably little prospect of the numbers diminishing appreciably. Meanwhile, developers such as yourself must continue to support it also.
