As a counterpoint to the BBC's Big Read, Independent.co.uk has compiled a list by 50 leading lights on the literary, political, opinion-forming and media scene to identify their worst reading experiences - imagine to be "stuck in a prison cell with an interminable, academic mega-bore (JRR Tolkien)".
