I do have a decent digital camera but it is a fair bit easier to use a scanner. It's simply a matter of placing the board on the scanner bed and letting the software do the work. There's no need to worry about the lighting, stability, or distortion (because it is placed at an angle in 3-space instead of an angle in 2-space).
A scanner is definitely a better tool for the job, assuming, of course, I still had a good scanner on hand.
