It's called
Dog Latin, which I think descends from doggerel. It's pretty widely used in Urban Fantasy. I don't know much about real Latin, though I wish I did, but there's something about Latin, maybe the formality, the archaic sound, or just the gravitas, that feels exactly right for conjuring magic.
