Post Tolstoy, Leo: Tolstoy on Shakespeare. v1, 23 Jan 2009

An extremely interesting "critical essay on Shakespeare" by Leo Tolstoy, published in 1906, laying out why Tolstoy disagreed with the conventional view that Shakespeare was a great playwright. The book also contains a second essay called "Shakespeare's Attitude to the Working Classes", by Ernest Crosby, and extracts from a letter by George Bernard Shaw.

A good read for anyone remotely interested in Shakespeare.

Enjoy!
