Oh, this thread reminds me of Diana Wynne Jones' incredibly funny The Tough Guide to Fantasyland, a ruthless dissection of the generic quest fantasy. Alas, there's no ebook version.

Here's a simultaneous sendup of Tolkien and Eddings:
