A lot of those techies adore companies that make products simple enough for ordinary people. It means that they have fewer family members and friends knocking on their door begging for help.

I think it is safe to say that most techies resent Apple because of their business practices. These business practices restrict what they can do with Apple and even non-Apple hardware (e.g. walled gardens and patents).

As a general rule techies will choose to use or avoid Apple products based upon their own needs. My choice is Mac OS X and Android because that combination of platforms lets me get stuff done. Other techies will make a different decision, usually based upon wants and needs rather than ideology.
