Baudelaire, Charles: The Generous Gambler, IMP, v.1, 2 Nov 2007.

There isn’t much Baudelaire freely available in English but I found this little story in PG Australia. It’s only about a thousand words long and is about a man who gambles his soul to the devil. It contains the often-quoted line that the devil’s best trick is to persuade people that he doesn’t exist.

First published in 1864.
