Nate at the-digital-reader is skeptical that the update is for real. I tend to agree, at least in terms of the accuracy of the rumor.

The TechCrunch description is at best garbled. How could this possibly be in response to the customer response to adding Google Play to the Nook tablets? Who was asking for an email client on their Nook STR/Glo?

Adding a web browser would indeed be a useful enhancement especially if that included some wikipedia integration (which everyone else seems to have now). And there may well be some other stuff in the pipeline for ePub3 support. So I'm not discounting the possibility of an update, just the expectation that it contains any of the features mentioned by TechCrunch.
