You could use something like
calibre to convert the .mobi to.epub, which the Kobo app will read. Obviously it's an additional step, rather than just being able to drag and drop a file onto the app.
Adding support for .mobi, or any format other than .epub or .pdf would require fairly substantial development work as a new renderer would be required.
