I think it's worth noting that the FreeDownload hack is especially useful when used in conjunction with other hacks. For example:
  • you can set your epub downloads to be saved to the Documents folder and then view them in fbkindle (or FBReader)
  • you can download ogg, wav, flac, etc files to the Music folder to play with MPlayer
  • you can save z5, z6, z7, etc files to the /developer/kif/work/ folder and play them in KIF.

Being able to download files on the fly really adds to the value of these applications.
