Is your device an older device (what version of Android is it running)?
Older Android devices tend to have rather buggy MTP implementations, unfortunately (depending on the manufacturer). If your device allows it and you have the patience/time for it, you can try installing a custom ROM.
Other than that, I'm out of ideas, sorry.
