This is the second of Nevil Shute's novel.

Like many of Nevil Shute's novels, it is based on the life of pilot. This pilot, Maurice Lenden, is out of work and out of luck, as were many people in the period between WWI and WWII. What he does to get back in the air and reclaim his self-worth is the basis of the story.

This book is likely out of copyright only in Canada where copyright expires 50 years after the death of an author.
