Makes sense to me. I have a question about a quote I found in a mystery novel.

"I'm no gentleman. I'm a detective."

What famous fictional detective said this line? It was a response to a hotel clerk who got a little persnickety. Thus, you can rule out Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot for starters. If you think this is a pushy American character, then you are on the right track.
