Fair enough. I remember skipping the introduction to the book precisely because I didn't want to know, and he points that out to readers if they wish to skip it.

I voted for Fire Upon the Deep. Very similar to Anathem in many ways actually, requires a good amount of thought as you go through it to figure it out, but I felt it was better than Anathem in the end. Both good books though.
