Everybody and anybody may write to /dev/null.
Very true. It was debian that was bitching about it.

Unsure why. I do have a backup "base debian" ext3 that I now flavour with the various things I want and then backup again.

I will check if the /dev/null in the base one is incorrect therefore today.
