Considering that the Original Poster is talking about a library book, Field Stripping (TM) the DRM is the wrong idea.

PDF is a last resort for most. Thankfully, there is ample (buoyant!) room for the improvement of PDF handling on "Oh! So many!" eBook reading devices that it can't help but get better with time, even as a back burner project.
