I believe it is commonly known, and easy to find out for those who are interested, that Amazon has decided not to worry about the folks who are rooting and sideloading on the Fire. Amazon seems to think that it is a small enough number of people that it is not worth the effort to stop it.

Amazon also has a built in media player and a good number of free movies and shows which BN does not.

Let's face it, BN was late to the game. By the time the Nook was out,Amazon was dominant. By the time BN bookstore equalled Amazon, Amazon had solidified that position. BN cannot compete internationally, they won't even sell their e-reader to people outside the US even though there are plenty of EPub providers for the Nook.
