This procedure seems to work but I still got as many entries as before doing it.
I got three entries for "third Wave - Alvin toffler" . One in PDF, other in LRF and one more in TXT.
Right click > edit meta information > merge into first selected book keeping others
The tree entries are not merged into one. Calibre is keeping three different entries.
