Here's another Gillian Hazeltine Courtroom Mystery, by George F. Worts, that I've assembled for your pleasure.

The quotes below are both from Amazon, while the second quote is from a reviewer on Amazon:

1.)
"Although the unusual aspects of The Diamond Bullet Murder Case fascinate the great criminal lawyer, Gillian Hazeltine, he refuses to take the case -- convinced the defendant cannot possibly be saved, for the defendant's fiancee, Nellie Hearthstone, a terrified orphan, confesses to Gillian that her lover, Jim Truman, actually did kill her brutal employer, Amos Grundle. Nellie, taken out of an orphanage in the town of Clinton by farmer, Amos Grundle, publicly respected as a "charitable man," discovered his secret side, barely managing to defend herself from his amorous advances and cruel beatings. When Grundle boldly proposed to kill his wife and make Nellie his new wife and heir, she fled and confessed the details of her life at the Grundles to Jim Truman for the first time. Truman insisted that they marry at once, and was slipping his mother's diamond wedding ring on her finger when Grundle appeared. The enraged farmer snatched the diamond from the ring and dropped it in his gun, saying he was going to shoot it into a rock. Truman grabbed the gun and shot Grundle, who fell into the flooded quarry. Later, the "diamond bullet" is recovered from Grundle's body by Dr. Vollmer, the local coroner.Prosecutor Elton Dawbridge, grafter and publicity-hunter with political ambitions, sees the case as his shot at the governor's mansion -- if he can get the death penalty for Truman. Nellie appeals to Gillian Hazeltine to take the case. But when he suggests Truman's only hope is for her to say he shot Grundle while defending her honor, the orphan confess that her training, and her continual fight against the shame of being a "foundling," has made her physically unable to tell a lie. The only witness who can attest to Grundle's true nature is an old Lithuanian farmhand named Pavlitch, but local gangsters under the direction of Dawbridge kill Pavlitch, and they make an attempt on Hazeltine. Furious, Gillian takes the case, but wonders if even his legendary courtroom wizardry will be enough to save Jim Truman for Nellie Hearthstone."

2.)
"From the 1930s this series supposedly inspired Perry Mason. Attorney Gillian Hazeltine pulls rabbits out of the hat to save his clients. There are Lincoln like qualities about Hazeltine, he is gawky and not at all handsome. At the same time, the series has a slight tongue-in-cheek satrical quality, like a good screwball comedy. Worth reading if you like your crime nostalgic."

Like all the books I assemble on MobileRead, this too was assembled to reflect human intervention and artistic judgment.

I hope you enjoy it.
