Problem with Region magnification on fixed layout for Kindle Fire

I am trying to produce a fixed layout ebook for kindle fire with regional magnification. I am using the following coding found in the Amazon guidelines:

<a class="app-amzn-magnify"
data-app-amzn-magnify='{"targetId":"fs1-txt2-magTarget", "sourceId":"fs1-2-txt", "ordinal":1}'>
<div id="fs1-2-txt">
etc etc..

But I keep on getting the following errors when I validate the epub:

there is no attribute "data-app-amzn-magnify" and
document type does not allow element "div" here; missing one of...

With just one paragraph of text formatted in this way, the conversion to mobi works and so does the magnification on my Kindle Fire. But if another page of three regions is set for magnification, the conversion to mobi fails.
It would be greatly appreciated if anyone with any experience could help me with this.
