@Jade Aislin - I can't duplicate your problem with characters metadata.
I'm able to set characters to a custom column in FFDL and have it appear correctly in the GC'ed cover on both new stories and updates.
GC has a feature now to export a settings set. Maybe if you post your settings I can spot the problem.
